The American Legion

Eligibility

You’re eligible to join The American Legion if you have served at least one day of active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces since December 7, 1941, and were honorably discharged or are currently serving honorably.

American Legion Auxiliary – Unit 9

The American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) is one of the nation’s most prominent women-led patriotic service organizations. As part of the American Legion Family, the Auxiliary supports veterans, promotes patriotism, and strengthens communities through meaningful programs and service. At Brunswick Unit 9, Auxiliary members are active, engaged, and committed to honoring the sacrifice of our military families.

What Membership Offers

  • Hosts and coordinates patriotic and fundraising events
  • Works alongside the Legion, SAL, and Riders in unified purpose

Eligibility

Membership in the Auxiliary is open to grandmothers, mothers, sisters, spouses, daughters, and direct female descendants of veterans eligible for American Legion membership. Women veterans who are eligible for Legion membership may choose to join the Auxiliary instead.

Joining Brunswick Unit 9 is simple. Just bring a copy of your DD-214 or service verification. New members, transfers, and renewals are welcome. Sons of The American Legion – Squadron 9

The Sons of The American Legion (SAL) is a proud part of the American Legion Family. Founded in 1932, the SAL exists to honor the service and sacrifice of Legion-eligible veterans through community involvement, patriotic service, and support of veterans’ programs. At Brunswick Squadron 9, SAL members work side-by-side with the Legion and Auxiliary to support events, volunteer efforts, youth programs, and the care of veterans and their families.

What Membership Offers

  • Participate in community service projects
  • Help support Post events, Bingo nights, and fundraisers
  • Assist with veterans’ outreach and memorial efforts
  • Represent patriotism, tradition, and respect for military service
  • Build lifelong friendships rooted in shared values

Eligibility

Membership is open to male descendants (including stepsons and adopted sons) of Legion-eligible veterans. You do not have to be a veteran to join.
